OMG....How can they say with a straight face this a diversity and inclusion panel when it is predominantly one color and one gender...no white males at all and only one Hispanic woman and 4 white women...biased from the beginning. "The changes are the work of a 17-soldier panel established to promote diversity and inclusion, according to the service. Suggestions were proposed by troops and voted on by panel members, who came from commands across the force. The panel was made up of 10 Black women, four white women, one Hispanic woman, one Hispanic man and one Black man. When you start making exceptions for everyone then you are not UNIFORM any longer...ok ok ok...I get the ponytail thing and have actually advocated for that in the past along with letting females shave their heads should they choose to...makes perfect sense. But his isn't a diversity and inclusion panel if it isn't truly diverse and includes representation of all. Am I missing something here?

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - I am not fragile and don't get offended and definitely don't have privilege...just that term is BULLSHIT...you don't know me or where I came from so don't tell me just because I am white and a male I am privileged. Far from it...Let me restate...don't call it a DIVERSITY and INCLUSION panel if you aren't including all subsets...if you don't include everyone then it is a focus panel...there isn't anything DIVERSE about it. Yes, previously there were males on them and that was wrong too...should have included more of a diverse group based on the makeup of the service...ALSO you got so wrapped around the axle about white privilege that you also missed my point about the hair...I am glad they are doing it "I get the ponytail thing and have actually advocated for that in the past along with letting females shave their heads should they choose to...makes perfect sense." Absolutely the right thing to do.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - Someone who doesn't understand what white privilege means. It doesn't mean nothing bad ever happens to white people. It means that our skin color isn't one of the things we have to worry about causing issues.

I didn't miss your point about the hair at all. Your response is pretty typical when privilege is brought up.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - Let me explain my view on white privilege…let me pontificate...I hate the blanket white privilege statement...
As long as I can remember when I was a young man, I worked on the family farm in the 4 acre garden our grandparents and four aunts and uncles and their family shared so we could eat because money was tight…mind you this was in the heat in Mississippi in the summer. We worked that garden all summer so we would have food for the winter…we also worked out cows so we could have beef because that was a luxury if we had to buy it…as I got older I had to take on jobs for any money I could get and at one time for three years I cut grass, lifeguarded, and cut and sold firewood…we all had to so our family could make it…see both my parents were teachers and refused to go on government assistance…we were raised to take care of our own and not be reliant on anyone else…Privilege???
When I joined the military at 17 I became loadmaster on C-130s and C-141s…worked my ass off to make SSgt while working extra jobs when I wasn’t flying. Decided to go back to college only to find out when I applied for financial aid (grants and loans) that I didn’t qualify because my hard working parents (white father by the way) who had three kids in college made too much damn money when they were struggling to make house payments and feed their family…it gets better…the financial aid counselor who was a minority looked me straight in the eyes and told me that if I was another race I would get all the money I needed and cold go for free with the same qualifications…Privileged???? So I took on three jobs, milking dairy cows at 0500 and 1700 each day 7 days a week 365 days a year, worked at alighting store as a stock boy, and was a stage hand for the university when concerts or other big events came to town…all the while taking 18 hours a semester and completing my ROTC commitments…each month I made my tuition payments, made my rent, and bought what little bit of groceries I could afford to get me through the month when times I didn’t know if I would eat for a couple of days…Privileged????
Once I got my commission, I worked and worked and worked to EARN every promotion I ever received. I was never handed anything or given anything because of my color…so to say a blanket statement that because I am a white male I am privileged is absolutely wrong…My father, my grandfather and my two brothers are far from privileged…we have worked like dogs to earn everything we were ever blessed with…you don’t know me so don’t blanket cover me.
