Good morning Col Burroughs and Posse. Hopefully everyone had a good and peaceful Christmas holiday yesterday.
If understanding were only as contagious as its reverse. So often things that are said or done in good faith are misunderstood. The only way to know what someone's intentions are is to ask and then listen to what is said, not just assume or gather thoughts for a reply. This is what derails so many conversations and turns them into arguments. Good leaders give people the benefit of the doubt and give them an opportunity to explain and listen to them without prejudging.

Lt Col Charlie Brown - Excellent leader perspective on understanding today as well listening to understand Charlie. Thanks for the additional quotes on today's topic...

“Understanding can take on so many meanings for everyone. It could be your ability to understand communications; understanding where a person is coming from; understanding how you feel personally; and understanding and respecting others. May we learn to understand everything about each other, and may we understand those things we fear in life; may we learn to understand with a positive outlook putting negativity to the side; may your mind, body, and soul be opened to grace, goodness, peace, forgiveness, and a bountiful life of purpose; and keep your family safe, secure, happy, and healthy as we try to understand these uncertain times as we head into a new year. ‘We are all so desperate to be understood, we forget to be understanding’ — Beau Taplin. Let us all be a little more understanding of each other today.” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

Good “Saturday” Morning “Burroughs’ Posse Leader from the now clear skies of Greater Boston... We had somewhere near 2" of rain with heavy winds yesterday with gusts exceeding 65 mph... Truly a nasty weather day for Christmas! Yet we all persevered...

Today is: “Understanding Day!” Why Not?

MY QUOTE #1:
"Understanding is the one tenet that enables people to move forward in a Democratic process." - Kerry F. Harkins December 26, 2020

1) "Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves." - Carl Jung

2) "You have to take risks. We will only understand the miracle of life fully when we allow the unexpected to happen." - Paulo Coelho

3) "Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate and doubt, to offer a solution everybody can understand." - Colin Powell

MY QUOTE #2:
It is easy to hear, harder to listen, and if one does not get it, will never understand." Kerry F. Harkins, December 26, 2020

That's why...

“Great leaders are successful because they can understand their team’s motivation, then enlist participation in ways that lead individual needs and interest toward the organization’s overall goals and vision!” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs
