PO1 William "Chip" Nagel Flying to San Clement Island on Marine bird from El Toro in the 1970s, I was seated to a nervous Nellie. He made a habit of giving his Mae West just a little puff of air as a test. Approaching the island, he was very busy trying to get all of those little puffs out so he could return the Mae West to the crew chief!

CSM Charles Hayden The Only Beach I Never want to be on, San Clemente Island. The Pacific Fleet Target Range. The Number of 5 inch 54 Rounds we lobbed that way on USS California CGN-36 and USS Arkansas CGN-41 was bloody amazing.
