SSG Robert Mark Odom seems the Navy is sensitive to the ‘staring at the chest’ to determine rank! I always thought that was an ignorant location...just my two cents

Two? Oh, cents! I cannot believe the rank insignia was moved from very visible collar points! SPC Nancy Greene

I believe the Army shoulders most of the blame for planting rank insignia center of mass on servicemembers' chests, CSM Charles Hayden. From the same idea factory that inflicted Velcroed patches and pockets hanging over your boots, when collar insignia became invisible under all the body-armor bits, and heaven forbid anybody re-introduce epaulets on a utility or combat uniform, why not save money by going to a single rank insignia which could double as an aiming dot?

CSM Charles Hayden I liked the rank on the collar! Putting it in the center, especially on females, is harassment waiting to happen CSM Charles Hayden

I still don't understand the reasoning behind using relatively expensive camouflage uniforms instead of simpler (and less expensive to manufacture) monochromatic work uniforms as daily wear aboard ships or on naval bases. If you ditched the 13-button tradition, dungarees still make the most sense for potentially grimy work, and khakis can be comfortable for all the rest.

Almost thought this was something from Dufflebag when first reading the headline.
