My husband doesn't lend his tools except to a very select few and I don't disagree with that.

Most people that know me, know that I'm not the "handyman" type with a ton of tools. However, I live on a farm, and the few tools I do have, I try to keep organized, but with five adults that use them, still trying to figure out how to get people to PUT THINGS BACK where they FOUND THEM, and that's just with family. Because we live on a farm in a rural area, we're probably the ones that have to ask to borrow, but we don't borrow little things. We have a family friend that lets us use their livestock trailer whenever we need it. It helps that, they trust us, and one time they let us use it, the trailer lights didn't work, so my son-in-law rewired them, and had them working before we returned it. When we do borrow things, we try to return them in as good as shape or better than when we got them. We haven't been here long enough that the farmers around us, come to us asking to borrow stuff.

I had a fellow who serviced my chainsaws in the field. He pushed the bar down while tightening it. First cut the chain broke and went sailing over my right shoulder. I never let anyone touch my stuff again.

I worked two years as a logger in the Black Hills, still have scars on two knuckles from when I was learning to sharpen a chain. I always did all my own stuff, but mainly because I was too cheap to farm any of it out.
