Thank you my friend CPT Jack Durish for making us aware that Representative Louis Gohmert (Texas) is leading charge to let people know what should be good [or actually bad] for the goose, should be good [or actually bad] namely the Democrat Party which in antebellum south were rabidly pro-slavery
It is noteworthy that Representative Louis Gohmer "introduced a resolution last week that would ban the Democratic Party from the House or require it to change its name due to its historical ties to slavery and racism." I am glad that "co-sponsors of the resolution include GOP Representatives Andy Biggs (Ariz), Jody Hice (Ga.), Randy Weber (Texas), and Andy Harris (Md.)"

BLUF as a historian I support this in principle although I don't expect it to gain traction. I certainly hope it will be publicized :-)

On May 22, 1856, Democrat representative Preston Brooks of South Carolina walked into the Senate chamber and savagely beat with a cane Massachusetts antislavery Republican Senator Charles Sumner
This was a response to Charles Sumner speaking out against Democrat senators Stephen Douglas of Illinois and Andrew Butler of South Carolina as he "addressed the Senate on the explosive issue of whether Kansas should be admitted to the Union as a slave state or a free state. In his "Crime Against Kansas" speech, Sumner identified two Democratic senators as the principal culprits in this crime—Stephen Douglas of Illinois and Andrew Butler of South Carolina. He characterized Douglas to his face as a "noise-some, squat, and nameless animal . . . not a proper model for an American senator." Andrew Butler, who was not present, received more elaborate treatment. Mocking the South Carolina senator's stance as a man of chivalry, the Massachusetts senator charged him with taking "a mistress . . . who, though ugly to others, is always lovely to him; though polluted in the sight of the world, is chaste in his sight—I mean," added Sumner, "the harlot, Slavery."

In those days Democrats were the states rights party and they were zealous about states rights including owning and trading slaves.
150 plus years later they are the party which is focused increasing the role of the Federal government including keeping people dependent on the government through Great Society programs initiated on the centenary of the end of the Civil War in 1965 in LBJ's administration

I thought you might be interested since this is an effort to eliminate the institutions which supported and fought to keep slavery, my friend COL Charles Williams :-)

The thing is now we can identify them. It took that AOC to reveal straight out socialists rather than the misleading term, Progressive. And no more hiding disguised as Blue Dogs. Liberals are liberals.
