Pretty soon we will have promotion LOTTO, Back in the day when all you had was the packet and picture, this was how you could tell if a prospective promotee looked like 10lbs of sausage shove into a 5lb skin and that they actually knew how to set up their uniforms. Sometime things change for the best but other times its just another shits how premier. I am a betting man and I think that the first time that all identifying info is removed we will fail to meet the official/unofficial quota then the fun starts.

SSG Perrotto, I agree with unit inspections and senior leaders looking you over; that's what right looks like. However, I'm sure we have all seen the units that haven't conducted uniform inspections in ages or when they do they tell you to bring it in on a hanger. As for the sausage they may not be overweight but have bought a new uniform to match body size and attempt to squeeze into their initial issue. So I don't disagree with what you are saying, you are correct but experience tells us that is now always how it works.

SSG Robert Perrotto - Well Staff the answer is no, considering what I have seen at some Clothing sales stores, senior NCO's paying have their uniforms set up etc. The intention of the photos was to give NCO's a chance to shine, to practice what they preach. I can see how trusting units to make sure everything is squared away might be a good idea in theory but in practice there were a great number of NCO's that should have never been selected for many reason yet units sent them forward. Thats a small part of the pollution(Turds) in the NCO corp, those that are toxic leaders that fail to mentor, know it alls, wear teh rank but don't live it. I have been to a number of schools where units are supposed to screen students prior, yet fat out of condition shitbags show up and waste time and budget dollars and also haven't a clue how to read the regulations let alone apply them. In addition as already said you don't have to be overweight to look like you are wearing spandex, Some folks will never look correct in the fashion show that is uniform selection and procurement done every few years. You give way to much credit to "UNITS", while many do uphold standards there was growing number of them that pay lip service, as wells as fewer events that are required with Dress uniforms. Its basic NCO 101 or it was while I was in uniform but from what I am hearing today its on a downward trajectory starting from the top.

1SG Dennis Hicks - I do not know about who is informing you, but When we were in garrison, we did pay day activities first Friday, or Thursday before a long weekend (if the first Friday was a DONSA) in which the uniform of the day was Class A or ASU. We would do PT, Personal Hygiene, Uniform Inspection at 0900 - If your uniform was squared away, then you were released for the day, If there were Minor Gigs, you were re inspected at 1300, if squared away, you were released, if Not, the next inspection was 1600. If it was Major gig, you were counseled to have the uniform corrected/tailored. replaced by next Friday, and be inspected by the CSM.
Your argument about having the tailor shop set up the Uniform is just old fashoined dig in your heels nonsense. I utilized the services of the dry cleaners who had uniform set up, because quite frankly, spending 2 -3 hours setting the damn thing up was not more important then my daughters recitals, or my sons sporting events or even quality wife time. Between field exercises, deployments, schools, training, admin work, NTC rotations the Army got more then it's fair share of my time, I wasn't about to give up more time with my family setting up a useless uniform That was worn 13 times a year. ( Pay day activities and the unit formal)
Being able to set up a uniform has nothing to do with leadership potential. Because we all know the pretty boys that can't supervise Boiling water, let alone squaring a SM away. And that has to do with the leaders fudging NCOER's - The photo, name, and sex is worthless.

Hey let me clue you in, I did pay day activities where the eagle shit in both Khakis and Greens, they don't do that anymore with direct deposit, Maybe in units you served in but not all and not always, As fo old fashioned dig in the heel, no its not slackers think like that and always try to get out of doing whats right for what easy. If it takes you 2-3 hrs to set up your uniform then you were failed by your mentors plan and simple, A useless uniform eh, that says a great deal and explains the attitude. I guess your were unfortunate enough not to be taught attention to detail so I won't wast anymore time trying. You must have served in some weak units to have pretty boys who can't lead. You have your opinion I have mine forged from my time in uniform and thy type of units I served in. What I see and hear from my youngest serving now say a great deal about all this change going on and its not for the better but then again I no longer have a dog in the fight. I will stick with what I know from sitting on multiple boards over 35 years in uniform and let the current crop of ghost squeeze ether way into stripes while hiding in anonymity.

I happen to agree with this. and also with removing name and sex. none of these things have anything to do with potential.

Why break something that works just fine! I have reviewed thousands of files and a photo tells a lot! The only thing In the Army that works better when you break it, is a Chemstick!
