Funny yet with a lot of truth. When I was an Active Duty SGT my brother became a 2LT in the Army Reserves. Listen to your Nicosia was the first thing I told him.

There’s some truth to that though NCO are not responsible for officers we often take young Lt under our wings to show the the ropes . A Lt is a fool if he doesn’t take advantage of our expertise

After commissioning upon college graduation an ROTC NCO, who was one of my instructors for years, pulled me aside with some advice.

He said, “When you get to your first assignment don’t order anyone to do anything for at least 6 weeks. Watch and learn.”

Boy was he right! Glad I followed the advice. I’m certain it saved me and many others a lot of heartache.

Thank you First Sergeant. I was blessed to have several senior NCOs to work with, especially because I was filling in on a job that was supposed to be staffed by an O-4.
