Thank you for the cool story. I never knew about the P-47s. Bomber escort duty accomplished two objectives: Escort the bombers and shoot down enemy fighters. This had a snowballing effect as it caused attrition and set the conditions for air superiority. Air superiority facilitated tactical air to ground power, and Allied fighters had the leeway to attack German formations and supply lines. Patton in his brilliance, used fighters to engage and weaken German units, and give him great intelligence as he steam rolled his army out of France.

In spite of all the issues this remake got a lot of kills.
