Man charged 32 years after gay student murdered in apparent hate crime

Long overdue but may be a difficult case, Scott Phillip White, who was a teenager at the time of the killing, was taken into custody and charged with Johnson’s murder Tuesday morning. He was denied bail and will appear in court Wednesday. The victim's body was found in 1988 at Blue Fish Point at the foot of a cliff that was a popular hangout for gay hookups. This is going to be a difficult case without a confession and given the fact the suspect was 17 years old at the time of the murder. One can imagine the kinds of defenses the suspect's attorneys could come up with. I wish the police and the family the best of luck in this prosecution.
