What do you think would happen to a Commissioned Officer of lower rank that did the same thing?

It was done too quickly and without investigation...that combination usually backfires

1- It was already out in the open press that the ship was pulling into Guam due to the COVID outbreak onboard.
2- In the email, the Captain specifically says that the Roosevelt was capable of conducting all mission requirements. He just wanted to make clear the cost of that decision.
3- The Admiral in charge of the CAG stated in an interview that he would not have forwarded the Capt's concerns up the COC.
4- It seems, through the Nay's inquiry, that the email distribution on the email, reported by Modley as 20-30 people, was actually a small number of Admirals, Higher up in the COC. And that the Capt was not responsible for the leak to the press.
Backdoor channels have existed since the military's creation, and are critical to successfully completing the mission. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater because there is a little egg on some higher-ups face....

1. One leak doesn't justify a second.
2. The enemy knows that's BS. For a weapons system to function optimally it needs all of its component parts, including personnel. There are no "extra" people on any ship.
3. Cop out. In the military there are myriad legitimate avenues of redress of grievances OUTSIDE of one's chain-of-command that don't include colleagues or the press. They include a mentor, chaplain, IG, medical chain-of-command through the ship's surgeon, etc.
4. I don't believe that. And when one puts something into an email one should assume the possibility of it going viral. OP SEC. Email to ask for direct communication. A conversation. Face-to-face is preferable, voice or vid-phone conference next.
Leaders/Commanders must take FULL responsibility for the consequences of their actions, intended or not. The Old Boys Club will attempt to revive this officer's career. They may be successful, as this Commander in Chief has demonstrated the ability not to micromanage if the preponderance of the brain trust goes a certain direction. My opinion is that that would be a mistake. EVERYBODY is watching. If they reinstate him they have set a new LOWER standard of command responsibility. I say take a rank and give him a desk. If he were a junior officer, a reprimand and a STRONG mentor.

Captain Crozier took responsibility. I'll let those who delegated him the responsibility decide his level of accountability. Have you seen the reporting on the USS Kidd?
