Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Eye on the Milky Way." This 27-frame mosaic was taken in the Atacama Desert region of Chilé in July 2019. This desert is reportedly one of the driest on Earth. The "eye" is Laguna Ojas de Salar, located about 100km southeast of the northern Chiléan city of Calama. Here the Milky Way can be seen in all of its grandeur. Judging by a map, I would guess the nearby city lights are from San Pedro de Atacama, Coyo, and Cucuter.
