Sounds like a good thing to me, at least on the front end... Not sure what happens of the service dog dies, or the veteran passes away... and I agree, it is step one Charlie...

That's a good move, We just had a recent presentation, film and speech about service Dogs shown at Our American legion Post and the organization doing the training, providing etc is all unpaid volunteers and the program depends on donations and private funding. A lot of people weren't even aware there was no VA funding for that and its a good thing to correct and fund. The informational Presentation was sponsored by both our American legion Post 208, Millis, MA and the Millis (MA) Police Department. There were of course a half dozen service dogs present and food was also provided for those people that attended.

The Millis Police and also the Millis Fire Department have made a special effort to assist Veterans in town. Not to long ago the Police Department had a presentation also about service Dogs for the Members of the Legion Post and to make sure We knew what was available and of course there were service dogs, handlers, owners and trainers there to help provide that information. The Millis Police and Fire Departments also has hosted a breakfast for the Veterans which they paid for an invited us to attend at the Legion Post building. and had the Police Officers mix with the Veterans and Fire Department people. Both Departments have been involved in extensive Community relations efforts to include these programs.
