I think it is generally a bad idea for the President to delve into UCMJ cases, but every case is different and each should be weighed on its merits.

In general, I would say you're correct, but IMHO, the "military justice" system screwed the pooch on these three.

MAJ (Join to see) - In what way?
Golsteyn ambushed some random guy after he was released from American custody for questioning, executed him and later destroyed the man’s body in a burn pit on a forward operating base. All because he "might" have been with the Taliban.
Lorance saw two guys riding a motorcyle, said they "might" be enemy scouts, and had his entire team open fire. They turned out to be two rando unarmed civilians in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nine of his soldiers openly testified against him.

1SG (Join to see) Isn't that what the Court Martial does? Weigh each case on it's merits? And then, the follow up by the 82nd CG?
Aside from new evidence being presented, if POTUS just overturns them because he doesn't agree with the Laws of War, that's ethically wrong.

MAJ Bryan Zeski - I don't think that is necessarily true, as at least one of these cases deserves a look in my view. All of these cases get a review from a Sr officer before the sentence is verified.
My issue with POTUS reaching into Courts Marshal is that it can send a bad message to the troops. Discipline is very important.

Once you undermine the military justice system.....there is no going back.

SPC Angela Burnham - It matters because the truth matters, facts matter and science/human biology matter. Manning can change his name, he cannot change his sex. He is a man, period. He will always be man no matter the surgery, hormones and other things he might take or do to himself. That is the truth, that is reality, all the rest of this is simply embracing a lie.
The truth may hurt, it may be ugly (to some) but it is still the truth. I will not embrace the insanity of men pretending to be women or women pretending to be men and calling themselves such. He can change his name to "Moon Unit". That does not change who he is.
Sweeney cannot show up to any post and conduct a conversation without insults, name calling and ad hominem attacks. That is all he has left. The thought tank on that one is empty.

SPC Angela Burnham - I someone what agree with you and posted my solution. Decorum and respect from me is pushing it, I figure nay day (Hor) now I will be banned which will be fine by me, I don't do PC, I don't suffer the willfully dense to make others feel good and host of other comments, but I will refrain from this point on because of what I wrote about who owns the particular post.

Hire he likes honorable SMs over deserters. Take care of our troops, President. There is always a Democrat to take care of deserters.

MAJ Bryan Zeski - He probably was a "POG" or "REMF" or whatever they wanna call it. The ones who have the strong distaste for those who were support usually didn't see much combat time or any of that.
I think it's been funny that I was called a POG - I had no choice for the majority of my service since women were not allowed in combat arms until a few years ago. Now I'm too old for that shit. But we were attached to combat units. And plenty of women who were "attached" have seen combat. I was in a combat EN BN and I went on patrols with them a few times during the first deployment - and we did route clearance. My unit cleared the roads for infantry and everyone else to go do their jobs.

MCPO Roger Collins - I had more close calls than I would have liked to. You do know that the enemy doesn't care what your job is. During the invasion of Iraq, plenty of non-combat arms MOS's were on patrol, clearing buildings, detaining POW's, etc. The march to Baghdad was interesting to say the least. I can still smell the stench of death from that time. I was part of the 75th Field Artillery Brigade Exploitation Task Force (75th XTF). The makeup and mission was the first of it's kind and I was/am proud to have been a part of it.

MCPO Roger Collins - "Easy for REMFs to have that attitude."

Just because submarine duty was dangerous 80 years ago doesn’t mean it really is today.
Now, More new Army soldiers probably die in basic training every year than do sailors on Submarine duty.
