Welcome home Airman!!!
High Flight John Gillespie Magee, Jr
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth, High Flight is one of my all time favorite poems.
“John Gillespie Magee Jr. (9 June 1922 – 11 December 1941) was a World War 2 Anglo-American Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot and poet, who wrote the poem High Flight. He was killed in an accidental mid-air collision over England in 1941” and never even had the opportunity to serve in combat. Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth, I used to stay up and watch the TV stations “sign off” as they discontinued broadcasting for the day. Many used the High Flight film, which I’m sure you’ve seen. This one apparently is the original. Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen
