Is Democracy a Dying Species?

As I was reading this, the phone rang. It was an opinion poll focused on electric vehicles and tax credits for buying them. From what the pollster was asking I got the impression that CA is trying to get the US congress to pass legislation to make the purchase of one of these vehicles, in CA, eligible for a Federal $700 tax credit; that means your tax dollars get involved indirectly when they get to pay less in Fed taxes so you might have to pay more to make up the difference. If CA wants to give a tax credit for electric vehicles let it be on the State tax not the federal.
