I consider “Alice’s Restaurant Masacree” to be a country-ish song.
The first time I heard “Traveling Soldier” it stopped me dead in my tracks.
And I don’t know if you can say that “Copperhead Road” is *about* Vietnam but that’s one of the best country songs of the last 40 years easily

I am partial to Country Joe McDonald and his controversial song ‘Fixin to Die Rag”! I have him on vinyl and saw him live (on TV) perform this song at Woodstock! This song, for me, captures the the essence of the generation DRAFTED into a war which we viewed as political! I sang it for my granddaughter the other day and she wasn’t sure what to make of it; she’s only 12! I played it for my daughter so many times I think she knows most of the words! No disrespect for ALL the Vietnam Veterans. We were protesting the WAR; not those who were Drafted to fight in what my generation considered to be a Civil War. Great share of poignant Country Music! Thank you, Nancy

Make sure you have time...it took me almost two hours to listen to it’s entirely! Well worth the time! Great Music and interviews with the Legends of Country Music!
