I wholeheartedly agree. We invest 4 years in training these folks in leadership, followership, teamwork, and they receive a free college education. I think it at a minimum should be a 2 for one. For every year you were at the academy you serve 2 years. Graduate and you owe 8 years back. We already do that for pilots once they fully complete pilot training (final weapon system qualification) or medical school...usually if you use tuition assistance you have the two for one any way so why not the academies. By that time we have them for about 10 years total so we may lose them from active duty but at least we usually keep them in the reserves or guard. This is a significant investment from the taxpayers and I think we need a solid return on investment.

Completely agree. And stop cutting loose the ones who get drafted by pro sports. Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth

CPL Dave Hoover - Theo ne thing about the ones that go pro, they still have a commitment in the reserves and if they are called up, then well so be it. But they aren
't cut loose completely after graduating.

IMO, there would be fewer candidates for these schools. It’s just a cost of doing business. Some will appreciate our profession, some will not. You never know until you actually serve. I, personally enlisted to serve four years and the next thing I knew, I had retired.

And having fewer applicants is a bad thing why? It's just culling out the chaff before investing any time or money in them.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen One interesting study on this matter, a bit long but revealing. Appears to be a lot of chaff.
