MAJ Montgomery Granger Sorry I'm gonna piss some people off but this is just a total bullshit PC move. How can a leader lead if they have never done the job of what the unit is designed for?

MAJ Montgomery Granger
Have leg infantry officers ever piloted a Blackhawk or fired artillery on an enemy, or jumped out of a perfectly good airplane into a combat zone, or driven an M1A2 Abrams into combat? Yet it's been mostly infantry officers leading infantry divisions. With all due respect, SGM none of us have done every job, nor do we need to in order to excel as an officer or leader. You must know the level of scrutiny required to attain the highest ranks. This officer has made the grade, demonstrated effective leadership in a combat zone and understands and appreciates the value and effectiveness of not only combat arms, but has first-hand expertise in combat support and combat service support elements that are often under appreciated or supported; not because of incompetence or animosity, but because that's not their thing. This officer seems well rounded, effective and efficient. Good leaders are made better by those around them whose skills and abilities compliment their own. No one gets where they are alone, nor is any officer successful by themselves. Knowing how to inspire, motivate and challenge soldiers to do their best is what makes great leaders. Gen George Patton once said, "Never tell someone how to do something. Tell them what you want them to do and then let them amaze you with their ingenuity."
