Wow...yeah, Vit D is one of the fat soluble vitamins, I think as is Vit A, I believe, dogs must be unusually sensitive to it, excessive Vit A in humans, in, e.g., butter, or other milk products, as I recall, can definitely be equivalently toxic in humans, that I definitely was aware of...the water soluble ones, like Vit B and Vit C, are washed out really, whereas the fat soluble ones are removed hepatically through the liver, I'm fairly certain...I think Vit E, alpha tocopherol, I believe, is also fat soluble, and can be toxic in humans if excessive...in humans, however, Vit D does eventually deplete beyond a certain age, which is why elderly females often need I for osteoporosis, of course...there are other similar circumstances, as I recall, with the other vitamins, however, as I recall, excessive Vit A can actually, I think, impair and/or impact vision, I believe, incl possibly cause some level of actual blindness...it's obviously been some time since I did my clinical training before my disability, however, I just figured to mention all that, our previous cat had a cardiomyopathy her breed was prone to, necessitating liquid compounded plavix that was tuna or chicken flavored, scripted by the vet we use, we lost her awhile back, very suddenly and tragically, I'm afraid...one of the guys I trained with in allied health was, rather unusually, a veterinarian, who'd decided he'd wanted to go back for human clinical training, he was quite bright, he had a DVM-PhD, the only instance I ever encountered personally where a veterinarian opted to do that...interestingly, he was also a veterinarian in the Reserves as well, very unusual mind, I'd found, quite a rarity....

Your dog may have been trying to change a natural food diet.
