Good evening my friend SGT John " Mac " McConnell and thankyou for sharing a classic linear measure in the days before we were overcome with metric and base 10 dominated. We still speak of feet, yards, acres, pounds and furloughs and yet hectares, fortnights and furlongs seem to be a thing of the past.
Furtively, I pondered the faint linear feature measure the once-noble furlong whose future forecast of use seems to be diminishing fast. The furlong may be daunting for first-graders and yet it is neither foreboding nor forlorn. I consider myself fortunate to have been exposed to the classic measurement terms. While the cubit varied by the dimensions of the ruler, the furlong has consistently been defined as 220 yards.
A furlong wide by a furlong deep is 48,400 square yards which is the same measurement as 10 acres [4,840 square yards].

As is my wont, I try to find music associated with the word being focused on:

Thanks for mentioning me, my friend SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL

A great response as always my friend LTC Stephen F. . Funny how time is measured by ones personal beliefs and achievements. Mere distance is moving from point A to B to meet the objective........
