Hopefully they can bring things to light, and give those traumatized some help and clear answers.

People who have suffered MST are at very high risk of depression and suicide. It's critical that this be appropriately handled and no longer ignored.

I wonder why it is called "military sexual trauma". Is there something about it happening in the military that is significantly different than elsewhere. Why add the word "military" to it. It is sexual assault (or harassment). Is that done to make it sound more sinister or different? The term was not in use when I served.

Cpl Jeff N. Sad to say that yes. My hand to hand combat training was about 20 minutes long. So, no I could not defend myself in the barracks against someone that 6'4" and 220.. maybe they give women hand to hand combat training now butvthey didn't in the '80s. Does it really seem right to you that i should NEED TO DEFEND MYSELF IN THE BARRACKS? Also you stuff about male female equality is Whatever.. you dnt know me or my viewpoints on things so go find someone else to have your gender war with. And ya, I was beet bloody and unconscious many times and no One called the mps. I could not but from where you are sitting that probably makes no sense but that is because you don't know the whole story or what was happening. Talk about friendly fire!

PFC Meg Meyer - I had to be prepared to defend myself in the barracks. You don't think we had A type, aggressive personalities in the men's barracks that might try to take advantage of someone that might be weak? I am not looking to start a gender war, that has been started by others already. I just find it odd that women are supposed to be the equals of men in the armed forces, so much so they want to put them in combat arms MOS's but they cannot defend themselves in a one on one situation. I find that odd, don't you?

Cpl Jeff N. I do. The only way I can see that will ever work is if women train with men or at least receive the Same training as men. Then it could just go by that pure and simple. You make it through or you don't regardless of male or female. I could have handled more training and I would have been happy to get it. Only about one fourth of the women that started in my boot camp made it through as it was. Don't make me wrong, they beet us down and worked us hard but they really mainly seemed to care about how much we could carry and how far we could march. Little emphasis was put on defense or anything like that. We did at least fire weapons.
All that said, in the future it may matter much less the brute strength of the over all force do to technology. That is another conversation.
