The nutty thing about this was timing. He was taking the submarine into the yards for decommissioning. At that point he was losing his command. For them to do this, he had to have done something serious.

This raises an interesting topic of conversation. Are we now requiring so much specialized knowledge that officers are no longer focused on the fundamental requirement to lead and inspire subordinates?

Whichever hand is the dominant for piping, they salute with the other. Totally normal.
