I don't think it is the food so much as it is the off duty laziness of our troops. Let me explain. What I mean is that years ago we did all our own grass cutting, building maintenance, logistical buildups, dorm cleanups etc. Nowadays younger troops get off duty and go to their computers and sit and play games or surf the internet etc. The only activity is when they are "on duty" so to speak. The are couch potatoes after duty hours. We had the same or worse chow and we also didn't have fast food options on the installations either. I think the obesity rates are because of lifestyle changes versus food changes or a combination of both.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth I agree with you. My solution to.my weight mgt troops was that they had to be on the track with me twice a day 5 days a werk

Agree with you as well, but the simple fact is our military is just a reflection of society in general. This isn't something unique to the military. Just about all companies sub out most physically intensive jobs, take a look around a break room, or watch people leaving work and think about how many of those employees would be on a weight management program if they were in the military.

Interesting read but many young soldiers head towards fast food joints instead of the DFAC aka mess hall.

They need to refine it back to the way it was years ago, instead of having it like a fast food restuarant.
