In early 1971, I had to stay in military housing for one night before leaving for r&r. I used the stairwell, and saw hundreds of empty vials and capsules of different colors littering the stairwell - I presumed them to be discarded drug containers..... I remember pulling CQ one night at our unit in Can Tho, and I was warned to show no reaction and to say nothing when I went through one of the required checks of the enlisted billets. The darkened billets were loaded with the pungent smell of pot, and everyone looked at me with sullen faces. Around that same time frame, the officer's hooch next door was "fragged" once. We also found at least one known incidence of aircraft sabotoge.
