I really do not know about the survivability of the air craft carriers, but do know they are instrumental in show of force and projecting US military power.

As in any battle Tanks, APC's, Aircraft and Ships will get hit and some will be knocked out.
In WWII the US Navy lost some Aircraft Carriers.
Why would it be so surprising if the US Navy was in a battle again at that same size as WWII if we lost an Aircraft Carrier or so ?
Honestly people since WWII the US Navy has not had a battle at sea that really had an Aircraft Carrier being shot at and taking any hits.
IMHO if some current country in the world wanted to honestly battle the US Navy and tried to throw something at our Aircraft Carrier there would be a lot of hardware pitched into the sky to take it out. And if a Sub or something under did make a hit and took it out I would say that is battle. But I would not think with as much as the US Navy puts above, in and under the water that it is going to be easy for any country to just start popping Aircraft Carriers out.

GySgt John Olson - I'm not of a self defeatist mentality.
Ships have constantly developed through the years.
It looks as you have read the written potential of some Russkie equipment and swallowed it in its entirety. Though you have forgotten the game of Russkie propaganda.
To say that the US Navy is not thinking of the current or future of equipment and assets is not an accurate statement.
Obviously you are not abreast of the new tech the Navy is deploying.
With that being said Aircraft Carriers to this day are still completing a lot of work.

GySgt John Olson - You keep projecting inaccurately my thoughts and beliefs. It is entertaining though watching you run around screaming that the sky is falling.
The difference is that I have faith that the US Navy is strong and constantly adapting.

One day the carrier may well be obsolete, but I dont think we have reached that point yet.
