Diver's find in sunken wreckage of bomber could lead to recognition of WWII veteran's valor

Thank you, Lt.Col. Charlie Brown. Stories about B17's & B25's are a little nostalgic for me, Way back in "the olden days", I volunteered to transfer from jet fighters to multi-engine. Being a young single "hot shot pilot" (the bane of all newly fighter pilots), I knew the survival rate of fighter combat pilots had a poor track record. Wanting to get married and have a family some day, multi-engine pilots (including bombers) had better odds at survival was the reason for transferring. First was the C45 (Beechcraft 18) for light weigh introduction. Next came the B25 for medium weight training, following up with B17 and B24 for quad heavy weight. (Jet bombers were just beginning to make appearances). Even though the "heavies" were for training purposes only and not combat, they still impressed me as to what great aircraft they were - mainly the B17.
