I was a Mortar Man, and this was making me watch the lousy firing technique...and then I read you comment and spit tea all over my screen. You get the full ten plus comedy points for that comment!

Man that had to have them pissing their pants. I was never around mortars, so this may be a dum question, the round is armed by the force of being fired right? Or were these rounds practice, propellent and no payload? CW5 Jack Cardwell

I was a Mortar Man (81mm and 4.2 inch) and even tho that was almost fifty years ago...I can tell you they did piss their pants...and pulling a cook off out of a barrel? Someone didn't pay attention during training. The round had to travel X amount of meters before it was armed (from what I remember all those years ago) otherwise it would go off in the barrel. But man, those dudes were lucky.
