To them, anyone who disagrees with them is called extreme.
On their list of extremists are groups that do not belong on it. But, they are called extreme. Because, they do not parallel the left leaning thought of the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Cpl Mark McMiller - I respect your opinion, and have to concede that maybe there are some good men and women in there, but this is a kneejerk reaction. Those never end well, and the best thing they could do in supporting the constitution is let those who are charged with enforcing the laws (not the local Sheriff it seems) do what they're paid to do.
I don't care for the org in the way some have used the name, much the same way with BLM.

SSG Warren Swan - I think that just like any organization the Oath Keepers have some bad apples, but those are a very small minority. Most Oath Keepers are current and former cops and military members. I don't know what type of oath cops take, but the military members vow to uphold the oath they took when they joined the military to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign or domestic. So they aren't necessarily right wing and they aren't necessarily anti-government as long as the government is adhering to the Constitution.

Cpl Mark McMiller - You're right. The Oath has no expiration date, and I like that. But to add fuel to the fire is only making things worse. I'm not sure if this happened, but were the parents briefed on this, local school administers, the PD, and local legislators? Congress made a law 25yrs ago that said no weapons on school property with a 1000 foot perimeter around it (not a physical barrier). So in doing what they're thinking, they've broken the law the second they show up within those 1000ft. What they could do is offer a non armed security that will coordinate security in the school with radio and video SITREPS to allow the police to clear the building faster.

SSG Warren Swan - Yea, that's the Gun-Free School Zone Act of 1990 that has caused schools to be soft targets for mass shooters. That law has a couple of pertinent exceptions: First, private property that is not part of the school grounds is exempted. Second, individuals who have a carry permit that required law enforcement approval and was issued in the same state where the school is located are exempted.
