Jackie Gleason - Melancholy Serenade
Track 18 from Ultra-Lounge, Vol. 13: TV Town.
Maj Marty Hogan, one of Gleason's most famous compositions was Melancholy Serenade, which he used as the theme song for The Jackie Gleason Show. It's a beautiful piece, but there is some controversy as to how much he was involved in orchestration of the music and conducting the orchestra. It is said he simply conceptualized the melody. Nonetheless, it's a spectacular composition. A1C Ian Williams SFC Stephen Atchley SFC Sczymanski James L.

Thanks Maj Marty Hogan for letting us know that February 26 is the anniversary of the birth of American comedian, actor, writer, composer and conductor John Herbert Gleason who was known for his brash visual and verbal comedy style, exemplified by his bus driver character Ralph Kramden in the television series The Honeymooners.
I first became aware of Jackie Gleason in The Honeymooners.
Rest in peace Jackie Gleason!

During World War II, Gleason was initially exempt from military service, since he was a father of two. However, in 1943 the US started drafting men with children. Gleason reported to his induction where the doctors discovered that his broken left arm had healed crooked, the area between his thumb and forefinger was nerveless and numb, a pilonidal cyst existed at the end of his coccyx, and that he was 100 pounds overweight. Gleason was therefore classified 4-F, and rejected for military service.
Got to give the man credit. He tried to serve...
