A valid argument. However, in these times when the President is forced to take to Twitter to make his opinions, beliefs, and vision known (because "journalists" are intentionally distorting his message) I believe the SOTU message is needed more than ever. At least he won't be Tweeting while he's delivering it...

Susan Foster - I'm thinking of how the FBI director just up and bounced is going to play out tonight? Will it be that elephant in the room? Trump already denied he had anything to do with it, but the fact it happened after he is on record asking to get rid of him will raise questions in the minorities response. I'm also wondering what was the reason behind using a Kennedy to give the rebuttal? Seth Moulton would've been a better choice IMO. Using a Kennedy just because of name recognition?

SSG Warren Swan - A lot of folks don't stick around for the rebuttal.....but with a Kennedy giving it, they just might. I'll stick around....

SSG Warren Swan - You may be right. And Joe Kennedy has been pretty vocal in his rebuttal of policies, so he will probably give a good one. And of course it will be the greatest speech ever delivered for SOTU in recorded history. LOL

Staff Sergeant, I won’t argue that point. I think there’s a better choice. I’ll be sleeping by then, but I’ll hear all about it for the rest of the week

Sure, let’s stop the live performance in eight years. Why didn’t we think of that 9 years ago, but it would have created a job loss for TelePrompTer writers and replacement of those worn out.

Origins and Authorization. The formal basis for the State of the Union Address is from the U.S. Constitution: The President “shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.”

We could've stopped it 40 years ago. There is nothing in there that states it has to be on tv, with a non-captive audience, and be basically a 90 minute BS session where everything is scripted down to clapping, standing, call outs, everything. Send an email. It'll get the same response and be a lot shorter.

Would have been a bit difficult to establish a method of communication when the Constitution was written. Unless they were even more prescient than we realized.

Seems to me that almost the exact same thing could be said about the Grammys.
