SGT John " Mac " McConnell During WW II in Cleveland, OH our 3rd/4th grade class would be sent to scrounge for tin cans or any piece of metal we could carry back to the school on ?Miller Ave.

The neighborhood was not a prosperous one. A portion of our class time was dedicated to knitting! One classmate, a blonde haired boy struggled to knit Afghan Squares for coverlets while using pencils as knitting needles.
