This social deviant ILLEGAL ALIEN Martinez broke into a 68-year-old woman’s apartment and sexually assaulted her, then hours later assaulted another woman and stole her car. It seems that this waste of DNA didn’t have any Federal holds to keep him jail despite over 20 deportations due to the enlightened non-enforcement of Federal Immigration Statutes by the Portland City Government. How can any sentient being defend this malfeasance on the part of the Portland City Government? Where does it state in the Bill of Rights that it is LEGAL TO HAVE A SANCTUARY CITY. This is just another great example of how Liberalism is destroying the very fabric that is America

City leaders have proudly designated Austin as a sanctuary city so this perp would probably be welcome here should he find it necessary to seek sanctuary in the near future. There are plenty of freebies available for the illegal alien-types including affordable housing, public education, welfare of all stripes, colors, varieties, and flavors; free meals, free overnight bunks, plenty of streets to aggressively panhandle local workers and tourists. Ya all come visit..

The first time one is caught illegally in the U.S., it is a misdemeanor. From the second on, it is a felony. If the government charged and convicted these illegal aliens and they were given the maximum sentence including time at hard labor before being deported, they might not be so quick to come back. As long as the only consequence to an illegal alien for getting caught is to get deported, they have no incentive to NOT return.

The point I was attempting to make is that weak though it is IMV, we don't even enforce what we've got on the books. If we don't enforce our laws, how in hell can we expect criminals ... and illegal aliens are criminals ... to find them a deterrent?

LTC John G. W. I voted you up. Why do you believe I disagreed with you. The Border Patrol under the last administration was rendered useless. Enforcing our current laws would be a big step in the right direction. Enforcement will only come about with the support of all of government, not just about 80% of the Republicans and none of the Democrats; not even mentioning the Sanctuary Cities.

SFC William H. - I know you agree with me. My response wasn't adversarial. I was simply pointing out that my "idea" wasn't really mine at all. It is U.S. law ... but hasn't been enforced rigorously or evenly. The way I interpreted your comment was that you thought I was proposing that laws be enacted making a first offense a misdemeanor and subsequent offenses felonies ... when that is already the case.

Well, first of all the Bill of Rights doesn't have anything to do with anything you're talking about. Just because something is or is not in the Bill of Rights doesn't mean that it is or is not legal or a right. In fact, this is covered in the Ninth Amendment: "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."
With respect to sanctuary cities, it's my opinion that such places ought to be held liable when it turns out that people they're harboring end up committing criminal acts, most especially when they've been previously deported and/or convicted of past criminal acts. Perhaps a few expensive criminal liability suits will change their tune on the subject of "sanctuary cities".

What needs to happen are civil suits against the politicians responsible for these sanctuaries that protect criminals. Additionally, people are not being treated equally under the law, citizens are being tried for crimes that are simple misdemeanors for illegals.
