I didn't know any more about the Army before I enlisted than what I had read in Beetle Bailey comics and saw in the movies. One of my greatest surprises came when a roll fell of the table and didn't kill anyone. (Please don't make me explain that reference) The food was actually quite good. So, I'll join you in thanking all those who made every meal possible (well, maybe not the cold liver sandwiches I had on one work detail)...

I well remember those "rolls" CPT Jack Durish which could have made hard tack seem like Play-Doh :-)

Happy Thanksgiving my friend SGT John " Mac " McConnell and thank you for honoring the cooks, bakers, preppers , dishwashers, KP, and the chain of command who support the troops to make the Thanksgiving feats possible.
I appreciate seeing the crossed rifles and infantry blue cord on the Colonel serving food to the 2nd Infantry Division soldier in what must be a South Korean mess hall.
It has been a long time since I pulled KP and over thirty years since I had a mess hall under my command. It was always humbling to be in uniform during Thanksgiving as I remembered the history of this holiday and how it impacted service members and families.
