The various metal working rivet holes can easily become fouled with corrosion in any airframe. The ability of rivets to withstand corrosion makes the difference in an aircrafts longevity.

SSgt Robert Marx - I was NDI for 16 years- worked most of the fighters at the time. This is more than a minor issue. This is a complete failure of the QA process as well.

Thanks for sharing the news SSgt Robert Marx. I am glad that the USAF and Lockheed Martin seem to be joined at the hip to discover maintenance issues before they become critical.
Thankfully the fastener holes corrosion was found under the fuselage panels of a F-35A undergoing scheduled maintenance at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.
Discovering problems in scheduled maintenance is the most efficient way to improve the fleet.
