This paragraph contains a phrase that makes me shudder every time I now read or hear it . See if you can find it in the text.:
"In that strategy, Gen. David Perkins, commander, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, and I articulated that in order to meet the challenges of an uncertain future, we needed to fundamentally change and evolve the NCOPDS into a comprehensive leader development system that links training, education and experiences spanning the operational, institutional and self-development learning domains"

It really depends on what the sweeping changes are. More classroom and field and less distance learning in NCOES (and OES) would be a fundamental change most of us other than the bean counters could support, as just one example.

LTC (Join to see) - Amen, the distance learning piece and backlog for the in house portion was starting to be an issue when I retired. Surprised it was never fixed.

'Fundamentally change" always meant that whoever wanted to do it was looking for another Star.... it was NEVER about actually doing something that needed to be done, it was all about being "remembered for having done it in the first place"
We saw so many screwed up ideas in the Mech Infantry and usually done to us by leaders who were not Bradley Mech to begin with... but outranked us and thought "they knew better"... we paid for that over and over again

AMEDDC&S CSM told a bunch of us at Fort Sam that SSD is going away forever starting summer 2018. He said that it was being replaced by a DL (Distance Learning) System. We shall see how bad that sucks.

I definitely agree that NCOPDS should change. It’s obviously a good thing to improve on your organizations, if your making the right changes.... I honestly feel that a lack of discipline is what the military’s problem is and the changes that I’ve heard don’t really fix that.
PLDC had just changed to WLC when I attended and it was probably the best of the three NCOES as far as interaction with peers, expectations of discipline and leader developement.
My ALC was a complete waste of time and Army money. I didn’t gain any knowledge or experience from the course.
I did gain some knowledge in SLC, but I don’t think it helped me as far as being a better PSG and maybe a 1SG at some point before I retire.
