I well remember the time of the 1979 Iranian revolution and its aftermath SGT (Join to see). At the time I was a cadet at West Point in my final year.
Thanks for sharing the image and link..
To be honest, this seems to be a politically correct version of the Iranian revolution which was actually instigated by radical Shia Muslims to restore Islamic rule more than anything else.
Yes they ousted Mohammad Reza Pahlavi Shah and severed ties with the US as they captured our embassy and held embassy personnel hostage until after Ronald Reagan was elected President.
My first functioning car was purchased after I was assigned to Germany in February 1981. I was a young infantry lieutenant and jumped at the chance to purchase an Dodge Omni which had been destined for Iran during the hostage crisis but the freighter had its assets frozen with the stipulation that the cars could only be sold to service members stationed overseas. I purchased a Dodge Omni with no catalytic converter or radio and one years worth of car insurance [plus to a 24 year old single man].

Thanks for that point of view and history. I was in Germany in 1982-84. I joined in 1980 when I was twenty. We may have bumped into each other at one time or another!

SGT (Join to see) - I was based in Bamberg Germany along with SPC (Join to see) SP6 Clifford Ward in 1st Battalion 52nd Infantry Regiment. We trained at Hohenfels and Grafenwöhr and Wildflecken most often.
It is possible our paths crossed at least once between 1982 to 1984.

LTC Stephen F. - I was at those training sites many, many times, so yes we probably crossed paths more than once! I was in Mainz for two years. Unfortunately I was in the Wiesbaden hospital visiting a friend, and there were a few Marines there injured in Lebanon. I will never forget seeing them.
