Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on June 21, 1788 the U.S. Constitution was ratified as nine out of 13 states were required to ratify the Constitution.
It is interesting that Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina and Rhode island resisted the constitution for their own reasons.
Thankfully Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut initially accepted the Constitution.
The modification of the original document to clarify the authority of the individual States and the Bill of Rights which among other things would specify constitutional protection of basic political rights, such as freedom of speech, religion, and the press was sufficient to draw the remaining states to ratify the Constitution as well as the Bill of Rights.
Thankfully Massachusetts, followed by Maryland, South Carolina and New Hampshire ratified the Constitution in 1788 and Virginia, New York and North Carolina ratified the Constitution in 1789 with Rhode island narrowly ratifying the Constitution in 1790.
In politics in general and ratification I particular majority even if it is a simple majority can result in significant changes. I am glad the constitution was ratified by the existing 13 states.
Can you imagine if the Constitution was required to be ratified in 2017 :-)

Sometimes in this current hostile political climate it is easy to romanticize the post-revolutionary period as everyone working together to create this great country. Not so. There was a lot of division amongst the founders of American.
