I found myself pondering the possibility of a second civil war around the same time that Jack mentioned. I've posted on it on Facebook and Twitter without much response from my family. But they often hear me going on about hot button topics and chime in from time to time :) My family and I all hold conservative Christian values and support the second amendment. So if there was such a conflict, I have no doubts about which side of the line we would be on.

My family include one grandmother, two parents, one sister+hubby+two kids, eight aunts/uncles, 15 cousins, and their children. Out of that, I know of one aunt and one uncle who are conservative, and perhaps a few cousins. Everyone else tilts so far to the left, they're almost horizontal.

They don't like hearing my opinions. I don't like hearing their opinions if I don't get a chance to respond.

CPT Jack Durish - They don't happen that often. When they do, I just try to put on a good face and steer clear of political discussions. But to be honest, it pisses me off that I'm the only one whose opinions are unwelcome.

There are some issues my family agrees on entirely, and there are other issues that send us in different directions. Being aware of that......we just make an effort not to push each others buttons. The key is to hold respect for others, even when you don't agree with them. Easier to do that with family and friends, than to do it with strangers I guess......but I try. If we were going to have another civil war, surely it would have happened back in the 60's. If we got through that decade in tact (pretty much), then we will survive all of this. We also survived the scandals of Nixon.....and later, Clinton......so whatever is in our future with regards to the Trump situation......we will survive it as a country.

CPT Jack Durish - I agree.....it's not about Trump. Political discourse has been going on long before he got on the scene, and will be going on long after his exit. Now......if someone could just convince him, that it's not all about him.
