My first cousin was assigned to MACV, SP5 Mark Kuzinski. He grew up in Baton Rouge (where French is spoken) and took French in high school and college. When he graduated, he enlisted, went to BCT and then straight to OCS at Fort Benning, I think. With French in his quiver, the Army sent him straight to the DLI for Vietnamese (many don't know that Vietnam was a colony of the French for many years). Next thing he knew, he was one of those lonely MACV Advisors in South Vietnam.
