This is certainly not the army of my youth SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL :-)
In my youth we kept our hair short because it was easier to maintain and to treat for vermin, insects, and disease in the field.
Traditionally dreadlocks are rarely if ever washed in Rastafarian culture.
I realize that dreadlocks have developed into a style that is not clearly linked to Rastafarianism but I wonder how easy it is to treat for lice, scalp issues, and insects, etc.
I expect some soldiers may be cheering the allowance of dreadlocks, turbans, beards, etc.; but, I think most are more stable and mature. :-)

African American hairstyles are made for our hair as it grows out of our head. It's not immature to advocate for allowing it, and calling it immature is an unnecessary insult and unworthy of a senior officer.

Interesting that after a response from four years ago, my friend CW3 (Join to see), you voted me down for my transparency.
