Thanks for letting us know SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL that the USMC published new updates to its physical fitness and combat fitness tests on December 20. Hopefully these new changes will indeed make "Marines more lethal, resilient and capable on the battlefield."

I'm at a loss. I am 56 years old, can still hump a pack for 20 miles but cannot run 3 miles in time due to worn out knees. However, I can still bicycle 20 miles in under 75 minutes. At this exact moment, 15 pull ups might be pushing it but I've not been in the gym for 9+ months now.
If the PFT is supposed to measure our physical readiness then why running at all? When was the last time someone ran, in shorts and sneaks, into battle? And rowing? Same question!
The best test toward "making Marines more lethal, resilient and capable on the battlefield" would be do an O Course, C Course, 10 or 20 mile hump, in battle rattle, etc.

When was the last time any Marine rowed into combat? How useful is that test? I am sure that somebody was given the task of evaluating the PFT and CFT, but there was nothing wrong with the test, and no need to change it. Marines march into combat, there hasn't been a lot of rowing since the Revolutionary War, and even then the Navy did the rowing.

GySgt John Olson Running is ok Gunny, but what is your rowing time????? Apparently that is what matters lol
Seriously, when you can't run the PFT, it is time to get out. Imagine the example you are setting the JR Marines if you can't run the same test that they run. Will they have to carry your pack for you in combat? Will you be a hump drop? WTF, hopefully Gen Mattis will square this away.
