Last night I met with 1LT (Join to see), who in addition to serving in the Tennessee Army National Guard, is the full time Volunteer Coordinator for Operation Stand Down Tennessee. It's a stand up organization, and if you know of a veteran in the Middle Tennessee area that needs assistance, this organization may be just the ticket. Here's what they are about:
Our Vision
Since 1993, empowering Veterans to achieve their American Dream.
Our Mission
Operation Stand Down Tennessee assists Veterans and their families so they can be self-sustaining and better connected to the community.
Our Goals
◦ We operate a Service Center providing and/or coordinating a variety of services to all Veterans and their families with special emphasis on those who are homeless.
◦ We provide Employment training and counseling, technical assistance, job training, placement assistance, computer training and job retention to Veterans with the focus of helping Veterans find good jobs.
◦ We operate a Transitional Housing Program for Veterans providing the necessary social and support services to ensure a successful return to responsible living.
◦ We coordinate Stand Downs with Middle Tennessee agencies to inform and provide social and support services for Veterans.
◦We operate a Thrift Store that provides a job-training program for veterans, provides clothes to Veterans and their families (at no cost to them!) and generates revenue to support programs in our Veteran Service Center.
Operation Stand Down Tennessee is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving Veterans in Tennessee, "and your contributions are welcome".

LTC Stephen C. This is an awesome effort and cause. Thanks for sharing the Vision, Mission, and Goals of the organization. I want to thank 1LT (Join to see) for his outstanding efforts. We need to make sure that the word gets out on this great effort Stephen. I'm going to share it with my network!

I am very impressed. It's quite interesting that this has come up. I am in the middle of a career transition, and my goal is to find something that I am passionate about. My wife thinks I need to work with veterans in some capacity. I did a quick search on OSD generally. There appears to be one in Central TX, but have not seen anything in North TX. I need to pursue this more. I'm not sure about starting something from scratch here in North Texas, as I still need to bring home the bacon, but it is intriguing to say the least. We will see if anything comes from it. In the meantime, kudos to the OSDTN team!
