Thanks for sharing this great tribute to our Marine Bothers and Sisters COL Mikel J. Burroughs. I am thankful that President-elect Donald Trump has nominated retired Marine Gen. James Mattis as his Secretary of Defense.
Relevant Background: General James Norman Mattis served concurrently as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Transformation from November 9, 2007 to September 8, 2009. Prior to that, he commanded I Marine Expeditionary Force, United States Marine Forces Central Command, and 1st Marine Division during the Iraq War. In 2010, POTUS Obama selected him to lead CENTCOM which he led with distinction. His forthrightness got him into hot water and he was terminated in 2013 by POTUS Obama for giving his assessment of the national lack of strategy in terms of Iraq and Afghanistan.
He has been a strong leader who was never a yes man. He is a leader who speaks his mind and will call a spade a spade if called upon to state his views on national security, DoD policy implications, and strategy issues as a minimum.
Kudos to retired Marine Gen. James Mattis for all he has done and all I expect he will do as Secretary of Defense!
