The most important promises for President-elect Donald Trump to keep are:
1. Eliminating the health insurance individual mandate so that people are not punished for not having health insurance.
2. Eliminating the requirement for people to purchase insurance from their own state. Competition throughout the insurance industry should drive prices down
3. Restructuring the Obamacare to permit parents to ensure children until 26, get the Federal government out of the health insurance "business," eliminate the regulations which allowed the Federal government to monopolize health care and return the health care industry to competitive healthcare solutions while government maintains oversight of protocols [FDA, etc]
4. Reducing the top rate from business taxes to 15% to stimulate small businesses to hire again
5. End the war on coal and stop subsidizing solar, wind and other "green" energy options. Allow them to compete without special preference.
6. Taking at least $20 Billion from the Department of Education budget and appropriation and distributing that amount as block grants to the states to provide for vouchers for inner city families to actually decide which schools their children should attend.
7. Executing tariffs on any former USA company which moved overseas which has exporting products back to the USA.
8. Deporting the 2,000,00 violent illegal alien felons. If the country refuses to accept them, eliminate visas to and from that nation and hopefully forbid funds transfers to that nation.
9. Re-negotiating or eliminating NAFTA on our terms. Eliminating economic treaties with China until China floats their currency worth to what it should be.

It wasn't discussed much during the tax cut debate, but the corporate tax rate is misleading. The nominal rate for them is 35% but the effective rate is a bit over 14%. This is an average but is what actually hits the treasury as revenue. Lowering their rate from 35 to 20% effectively makes their effective rate legally 0%. If we have been running up the debt at the rate we are, lowering their taxes will likely make it worse. I know the argument is that they will repatriate funds, give raises and create jobs but at face value we should look at the lost revenue due to lower effective taxation. I'm for trying to stimulate the economy but am also skeptical that this will work. We are already at almost what economists consider as optimal employment, but wages are too low. The investors will expect the same high returns and major raises for the middle class will cut into that, so we have no assurance that they will react as advertised. In time we will see.

a. ref your #1-#2: the "requirement to insure people with pre-existing conditions" is a red herring. I was terminated from employment as the Affordable Care Act was being implemented precisely because of my disabilities. I know many other people who were terminated in their mid-50's at that time because they had disabilities as well.
b. ref your #6 Public-school education is a for profit enterprise with taxpayers footing the bill. Where I live, in northern Virginia, every election there are unfunded proposals to build schools based on capital loans and expectations of increase to public school students which is not a uniform distribution by any means. These loans tend to be for 10 years or more and tend to fall on the backs of those being educated in future tax bills.
c. The Federal government is the least efficient and effective method to distribute any good or service. One size or methodology to fit the situations and circumstances across the nation is a fools errand. Local and state governments are in a better position to understand the requirements with the local or state area respectively.

MSgt Steve Sweeney - my Program Director contacted me to let me know that my performance was not an issue.
Since the Affordable Care Act was somewhat unknown in terms of impact [my company had done analysis for the various Federal Government agencies by that point on the ACA].
They did a cost-benefit analysis. The company had refocused. When I was mobilized 2001 to 2004 I was supported when I cam back to work for them. They had been veteran friendly but that shifted in the next decade as they moved aware from a core DoD and Military focus [originally it was an FFRDC created under McNamara] to supporting civil agencies as well and some state governments requirements.
I had primarily supported OSD and Department of the Army as Senior consultant for non-profit policy and analysis company. I worked on site in the Pentagon until my disabilities and the medications made it too difficult. then I worked primarily from home except when classified meetings and discussions were required. The VA covered my health since I was over 80% service-connected disabled. My wife was uninsured until I fully retired from the Army last October.

1. It is informative that you are now writing "Either way, I think we have strayed from the original conversation related to campaign promises, which for any politician are merely reflections of hopes and dreams."
This thread is a discussion of your comment on my post at top. I am merely answering your questions and points.
2. My program director told me over the phone that it was precisely the implementation of the ACA which was why I was being terminated at the end of June 2013. They could no longer cover me because my health requirements would have cost too much. I am a trained and experienced ORSA and understand the calculus required in a bang per buck process.
3. Businesses across the nation had to do the calculus about what was affordable under the new regulations. Remember that the affordable care act was neither affordable nor universal despite intentions.

One thing If come to think about when it comes to campaign promises is this. Once they start getting read into the real state of the nation only then do they see what can and can not be done. This goes for both sides of the table.

Agreed. Which is why this is a good thing. It means he's not going to try to bull his way through without regard to checks and balances.

PO3 Ricky Foster I used to put together the President's Daily Brief, and I can tell you what is in the press is VERY different from what happens in the Oval. There are some things that most of us just don't need to know about...

We really know nothing about him, except what he talked about in his speeches. I knew he couldn't do everything he talked about, but I'll bet over 50% of his promises are kept. He's not a slacker and already jumped in head first to get his cabinet members secured. I think once he gets his feet on the ground and knows what he wants to do, he will get it done. He's different from politicians. He's a great businessman and is sharp as a tack. I just hope he doesn't let his mouth overload his ass concerning his promises.

TSgt Frank Shirley - Sorry. That's not going to happen. He's been elected by the Electorial College magic number, 270. Nothing can be done about that of. With your constant badgering, you are part of the problems going on, not part of the solution. Unless you and all of the protesters have a crystal ball, you don't have any idea what kind of President he's going to be, or what he's going to do. If I were you, Frank, I would knock it off, quit worrying about something you have no control over, and pray that he's going to be a good leader. As far as I'm concerned, if Franklin Graham is ok with Trump, who are you or me to write negative responses about President Elect Trump?
Can you try my suggestions, Frank? You'll feel better.
