This is going to be very interesting to see. Very interesting times. I am not sure why we are offering and funding sex change operations and hormone treatments, yet we cannot afford to treat our veterans or active duty military spouses.. I am not against transgendered individuals service. By all means. If you want to serve your country and are physically and mentally able, then you should have every opportunity to. However, sticking up a sign saying, "enlist and we will pay for this very expensive surgery" is dangerous ground - in my opinion. Instead of getting those who want to serve, you will inevitably get those who just want the surgery - then what? I could never afford such a thing. Most people can't. You're looking at upwards of $50,000 per reassignment surgery. A soldier recently had a heart attack during his PFA, and the military is refusing to cover the cost because they said the heart attack was caused by his lifestyle, not the military.. Unacceptable. As a leader, I will lead anyone with the same attitude and equality as I would anyone else. I will obey the orders of those appointed over me, regardless of who that person is. However, I want to know why we are focusing so much time, money, and effort into controversial topics, while neglecting our veterans and reservist service members. We, as a country, need to take better care of our own.

ENS (Join to see) This is a very controversial subject among our service members and veterans. I would like to see the same effort put into the care of our current veteran population's health issues, our homeless veterans, and benefits for those that have served this nation proudly beforehand! Just my opinion!

ENS (Join to see) - It is a common fear that people will now flock to the military wanting free surgeries. However, that will not be the case for several reasons.

1. If someone identifies as and gets diagnosed as transgender before they enter the military, they must fully complete transition 18 months prior to joining. Therefore, those people can't get the "free surgery" from the military.

2. Hundreds of companies now offer transgender health care to include surgery. So anyone who wants free surgery can go work for Walgreens and get surgery for free, and they never have to worry about deployments, service obligations, PT standards, being killed in action, etc. That sounds like a much better deal for someone who is only interested in freeloading.

3. Even if people do join the military for the sole purpose of getting free surgery, how is that any worse than people joining for free college? Surgery costs about 1/5 to 1/10 of tuition for 4 years. If we are willing to pay $250K or more on college, then why is surgery any different?

I absolutely agree that we should take better care of our own. That includes SM who have a heart attack during a PT test, and that includes SM who are transgender in need of treatment.

I for one, am glad I am at the back side of my life cycle. This is just asinine. The Army or any other service is not a social experiment, we are there to fight. Do your job, I don't give a damn if you are gay, trans, whatever, but I don't believe the military is responsible to pay for your gender reassignment especially, (Manning) if you are in Prison for espionage, prison is supposed to be punishment, not a venue for you to get a sex change and TAXPAYERS' expense

Oh really, so what should I think? As you are so full of so much of such great critical thinking? The Army should be a social experiment? I said, I don't give a shit, Gay, Trans, whatever, you serve, you serve, but when you violate the trust given to you (Manning), You lose
