I'm a nobody. Just a sad voice crying in the wilderness, lamenting the loss of American ideals of individualism and liberty. You have seen it in my comments on RallyPoint and my own weblog if you have followed me there. Thomas Sowell is somebody. He is a highly respected educator and author who has been carrying the same message. I hope that he accomplishes more good than I. Sadly, I suspect that we are failing. As he writes in this article, a curtain has descended around American schools and campuses, much like the one that surrounded Eastern European nations during the Cold War. Our children are being indoctrinated to be slaves to tyranny much like Mao's Red Guard. God help us all...

Tom Sowell is always worth reading, CPT Jack Durish. Thank you for posting this on the chance that someone might read it and rethink a dogmatic belief or two. I would add one more book to the banned reading list Mr. Sowell began to assemble in his article: Time on the Cross by Robert Fogel and Stanley Engerman. It explodes much of the balderdash we have been taught about American History before 1860. And it was published in 1974.

Mr. Sowell is one of the strongest voices of reason remaining. I share your fears, CPT Jack Durish, that our republic may be beyond the point of recovery.
