Thanks for reminding us SGT John " Mac " McConnell that “Baby Face” Nelson who was born Lester M. Gillis and John Paul Chase vehicle was spotted near Barrington, Illinois on November 27, 1934. They were stopped and a gun battle ensued with Baby Face Nelson mortally wounded and Special Agent Herman Edward Hollis being killed and Inspector Samuel P. Cowley was mortally wounded during the gun battle which lasted only four or five minutes.
John Paul Chase ensured he got the body of “Baby Face” Nelson away from the gun battle which only he survived. He then disposed of “Baby Face” Nelson somewhere.
The end of this story seems to be that John Paul Chase died of cancer in Palo Alto, California, on October 5, 1973 after he had been paroled from Leavenworth on October 31, 1966.
