As a graduate of USMA West Point I am disgusted with Mikey Weinstein's never-ending assault on any public expression of faith by anybody associated with the military MSG (Join to see).
Student-led prayer has been upheld by the SCOTUS. Cadets at West Point are students. Prayer is voluntary. Nobody was forced to pray.
USMA Cadets are trained to lead. Cadets are trained to stand up for what they know is right and against what they know is wrong. Anybody who did not want to participate was free to be silent as the others prayed.
Some football player whined to his mom and five other football players complained.
I had to chuckle when I read "Coach Monken had no business telling my son and his Army teammates to get on their knees and pray a prayer to Jesus!" wrote one concerned parent. "My son was very upset about this. ... This violates the Constitution and to think it happened at West Point?"
There are a lot of people who seem to be clueless about the Constitution and the bill of rights.
FYI COL Mikel J. Burroughs LTC Stephen C. Maj William W. "Bill" Price Capt Seid Waddell CW5 (Join to see) SMSgt Minister Gerald A. Thomas SGM David W. Carr LOM, DMSM MP SGT SFC Joe S. I do not follow the Christian faith but this is just plain stupid. Pray to your own God or take the time of prayer to be contemplative on your up coming performance. At every large Military function I have attended they always Pray at the start, the Chaplin is introduced and says let us Pray, we bow our heads listen to his words and then move on. I am not offended by it, I do not take offence at military customs and courtesy... why? Because i'm an adult!!!
I think life has become so simple and America has become so soft that we now must look for anything to be offended at. Humans like strife, and discorded. Think about it sitcoms, drama shows, reality TV, conflict... we are drawn to these things. We need conflict to survive, because that is how we have survived and grown to what we are. So now that its all been taken away we make it up.

Those that didn't want to join in could have asked to be excused.

PO2 Robert Aitchison - true. Then the parents need to back off, and let their little darlings grow up.
