When stopped by a cop for traffic violation I speak very respectfully, answer all questions directly & say or add nothing extra, no wise cracks smart remarks or anything else; and keep both hands on the steering wheel unless otherwise directed. Don't give the cop any excuse to shoot you. It doesn't do you any good if the cop is later proven to be wrong if you are dead in the meantime. Traffic violation is the only times I have ever been stopped by a cop for anything, so my experience is limited.

Capt Seid Waddell I would hope all stops, traffic or otherwise go that way.

CSM Charles Hayden, I do too, but it takes two to tango. The person stopped has a great deal of control over how it will go down.

The police have an obligation to control the situation one way or the other while the one stopped has the choice of cooperation or resistance - and this choice determines the level of violence that will be experienced.

This is a case in which stupidity can prove fatal.
